SATURDAY/SUNDAY, 14TH/15TH JULY - SYDNEY - LET THE JOURNEY BEGIN

It never ceases to amaze me just how much there is to organise for a lengthy overseas holiday….  You would never wish to have your Mastercard scammed the day before going overseas, but I did….. a nightmare!!!  Despite this added pressure, the list of "things to do" is complete and our bags are packed  – saying our prayers that they arrive at Heathrow after a very quick stop over in Abu Dhabi.

Our journey begins with Michaela (daughter) given the job of chauffeuring us to the airport and with check-in complete, we're on our way at 9pm … yippee!

Unfortunately the plane was full to the brim and we didn't get the seats we requested (nothing you can do when you are on the plane!!!). The large gentleman on the window seat barely stopped tossing & turning for 14 hours!!  So happy to touch down in Abu Dhabi….  Next leg was 7 hours and it couldn't get any worse, could it?  Sadly, we had a crying baby very close who barely gave up for over 3 hours – felt sorry for the Mum, but what about us L

Worst flight ever and feeling totally exhausted, we couldn't wait to get to our hotel and cool down (England is enduring a long heat wave)….  Now I'm sounding like a real whinger because the hotel doesn't have air conditioning – what!!!   ….. think we need a drink, or two – who cares what time it is J  I don't drink beer but I was able to down a pint of ale in no time in a pub across the road, watching the French play Croatia J

Yeah, some good news– our hire car is much bigger than we had paid for – a pretty blue Citroen SUV.

We should sleep well tonight!!
